AndromedaΓÇÖs spiral arms edge-on, they appear to form a circle. Much of the radio emission in the arms is thermal. Thermal emission tends to originate in large clouds of ionized hydrogen (150 or more light years in diameter) and is especially bright in areas of new star formation.
Andromeda also has nonthermal emission (bremsstrahlung radiation, for example). In general, AndromedaΓÇÖs radio light is significantly ΓÇ£hotterΓÇ¥ than that in our own Milky Way galaxy.
